What Pixel Solidari is

Giving never felt so much like yours.

A platform that turns small donations into real, visible impact — with your cause, and your photo, at the center.

01

You give easily

Choose your contribution in seconds. A pixel costs about as much as a coffee — and every peso adds to the mural.

02

Your photo appears

You upload a photo and it becomes a pixel of the collective mural, with its story, forever.

03

You help more causes

Your contribution reaches verified organizations and turns into concrete help where it’s needed most.

Our story

It started with an idea
that stayed with me.

An internet experiment from 2005 proved something powerful: thousands of small contributions, gathered onto a single canvas, can achieve something enormous.

I’m a technology person, and that idea stayed with me for years until I asked myself the right question: what if every pixel of that canvas were a photo? What if every photo told a story? The answer came almost on its own: photos of dogs, of cats, of our pets. Of the animals we love.

And that’s when the real purpose appeared. Anyone who has spent hours under the sea knows what it is to marvel at animal life — and how fragile it is. In Mexico, millions of dogs and cats survive on the streets while the shelters that rescue them operate at the limit, with no stable resources. That’s when I understood what I had in my hands: it wasn’t a page of pixels. It was a new way to fund those already saving lives.

I spent two years shaping it: the model, the technology and, above all, the transparency — so that every peso donated would be traceable from start to finish. That’s how Pixel Solidari was born: the foundation that helps foundations. We start with animals, but the model works for any cause that needs reliable funding.

Pixel by pixel, photo by photo, the mural is completed. Just like change.

The problem

Two crises that feed each other.

We start with animals because the urgency there is enormous — but the underlying problem is broader: a donation system that doesn’t reach those who need it most.

The animal crisis

On the front line are the shelters, associations and independent rescuers: they rescue, spay and neuter, heal and find homes. But they do it, for the most part, without a stable budget — relying on raffles, collections and their own pockets.

The donation crisis

Mexico ranked last among 36 countries in the share of GDP devoted to civil society. Our giving culture is defined by two traits: distrust of institutions and informality when giving. And of the more than 10,000 authorized grantees, fewer than 4% belong to animal-protection causes.

In 2021, 23% of Mexicans made donations.
Less than 1% reached civil-society organizations.

The opportunity

Donations in Mexico are growing.
Animal causes are left behind.

In fifteen years, donations to authorized organizations nearly tripled. Each year, transparency convinces more donors to give through formal channels.

Individual giving is still the exception.

Most of these resources come from large donors: companies, foundations, inheritances. The small donor — the one who would give 50, 100 or 200 pesos for a cause that moves them — still lacks a channel made for them.

Animal causes get the crumbs.

Social assistance, education and redistributive causes concentrate more than 80% of what is donated. Small dog and cat shelters, with no grantee registration, are practically off the map of formal philanthropy.

That’s the opportunity that drives us: a wave of trust that grows year after year… and millions of animals that haven’t yet climbed aboard.

How to give

Four steps. Two minutes.

No paperwork, no fine print. That’s how simple it is to add your pixel.

1

Choose the cause

Select the verified foundation or shelter you want to help.

2

Choose your donation

Pick the amount you want to make a difference with. A pixel costs about as much as a coffee.

3

Upload the photo

Add a photo of your companion and we turn it into a pixel.

4

Appear and share

Your pixel joins the mural and you help more animals live a better life.

Why it will work

We don’t start from a hunch.
We start from a diagnosis.

In Mexico people do want to give, but formal giving fails at specific points. We designed the platform to solve every one.

Where there is distrust

we add traceability.

Every campaign belongs to a verified shelter, has a public goal and progress visible in real time. Before donating you know who you’re helping; after donating, you see what was achieved. We don’t ask for blind trust: we give you evidence.

Where giving is abstract

we make it yours.

Buying a pixel, uploading your pet’s photo and seeing it become part of a mural alongside thousands of people — that you do feel. Your contribution has a face, a place and permanence. And the mechanism has been proven for twenty years.

Where giving is costly and complicated

we make it micro.

You don’t need to be a philanthropist. A pixel costs about as much as a coffee. Small, recurring giving is the most neglected segment of Mexican philanthropy — and the one with the greatest potential.

Where shelters can’t invest

we don’t charge upfront.

No organization pays to be on Pixel Solidari: we only share a commission when their campaign raises funds. If the shelter doesn’t earn, neither do we. Our incentives are aligned with the cause — by design.

And the wind is at our back. Formal donations have nearly tripled in fifteen years, driven by the greater transparency of organizations. The wave of trust already exists. What was missing was a channel for the small donor — and animal causes — to climb aboard.

Transparency and impact

Our contract with you.

Distrust is the number-one reason Mexicans don’t donate. We won’t ask you to trust — we’ll show you why you can.

You always know how much arrives.

We publish the exact breakdown of every donation: what percentage the shelter receives, how much goes to payment fees and how much sustains the platform. No fine print — and visible before you give.

Verified organizations only.

No shelter joins without passing our process: legal identity, real evidence of its work and verifiable contact details. In every campaign you can see who is behind it.

Every campaign is accountable.

Every campaign has a public goal, real-time progress and a closing date. When it ends, the shelter reports how it used the funds and we publish that report on the same page.

Your money doesn’t end up in limbo.

Funds are delivered to the shelter on defined, published timelines. And if a campaign doesn’t reach its goal, the shelter still receives everything raised: every peso counts.

We hold ourselves accountable too.

Pixel Solidari publishes its own numbers quarterly: total raised, total delivered to shelters and campaigns completed. The rules we ask for, we apply to ourselves first.

Have questions?

Answering uncomfortable questions is part of the commitment too. Write to us and we’ll tell you who your money helps and how.

Frequently asked questions

What everyone asks.

For donors

Where does my money go?

Straight to the campaign of the shelter you choose. Before donating you see the exact breakdown: what percentage the organization receives, how much goes to payment fees and how much sustains the platform. At closing, we publish the report on how funds were used.

Can I choose which shelter I help?

Yes. Each mural belongs to a campaign of a specific organization. You decide which cause to support — and you can support several.

What happens to my photo?

Your photo is part of the campaign mural, publicly visible. We only use it for that: we don’t sell it, don’t share it with third parties and don’t use it in advertising without your permission. You can ask us to remove it whenever you want.

How much does a pixel cost?

It depends on each campaign, but the idea is that it’s always accessible: a small contribution, within anyone’s reach. You can also buy more than one pixel if you want to contribute more.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

It depends on each organization. Campaigns of shelters that are authorized grantees with the SAT state it clearly and can issue a deductible receipt. If the campaign doesn’t indicate it, your contribution is an act of solidarity without a tax receipt.

For shelters and foundations

How much does it cost to launch a campaign?

Nothing upfront. There are no sign-up fees or monthly charges: we only share a commission on what is actually raised. If your campaign raises nothing, you owe us nothing.

What do I need to register my organization?

Prove your legal identity, demonstrate your organization’s real work and provide verifiable contact details. Verification is our trust filter for donors — and it also protects you.

Does my shelter need to be an authorized grantee?

No. We know most shelters in Mexico don’t have that registration, and it’s not a requirement to launch a campaign. If you have it, even better: your donors will be able to deduct their contributions.

When do I receive the funds?

On the timelines published in your campaign agreement, after closing and payment reconciliation.

What happens if the campaign doesn’t reach its goal?

The shelter still receives everything raised. Every peso counts, and an incomplete goal also saves lives.
